How To Use
How to Use Natural Filters
Natural Filters are an easy and effective way to purify your water. Follow these simple steps to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Step 1: Clean the Filter
Use the included brush to scrub the charcoal dust from the inside and outside of the filter under running water. Do not use detergent.
Step 2: Sterilise the Filter
Boil the filter in water for 15 minutes to sterilise it before first use. Simmer on low heat, drain the water and let the filters cool down before use (Step 3). Do not immediately place the hot filters in cold or room temperature water to avoid cracking.
Step 3: Filter Your Water
Place your bamboo filter in a jug or water bottle and fill it with up to 2 litres of water per stick. If you purchased our Five Pack Water Filter Starter Kit with Jug then place the stick inside the stainless steel basket (useful for aesthetics and keeping any charcoal crumbs out of the water).
For best results, let the filter stick sit in the water for 4 hours before drinking. You can leave the filter stick in the water jug or bottle and just top up the water once empty.
Step 4: Maintain the Filter
Every two weeks, reset your filter by boiling it for 15 minutes (repeat Step 2). This may also be a good time to clean your filter (Step 1) and water jug or water bottle with the included brush to avoid any build up of biofilm.
Biofilm is a slimy layer of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms that build up on surfaces like water bottles when exposed to moisture over time.
Step 5: Replace the Filter
Replace your filter with a new Natural Filter bamboo charcoal filter stick every three months for continued effectiveness.
Step 6: Recycle Your Filter
Once your Natural Filter stick has finished purifying water, you can still put it to good use. Crush and mix it into your garden soil to improve aeration and boost nutrients, or add it to compost to support microbial activity. Use it as a natural deodoriser in wardrobes, fridges, or shoes to absorb moisture and odours. It also works as an air purifier, helping to reduce humidity and allergens in small spaces. When fully spent, simply return it to the earth by burying it in your garden.
By following these steps, you’ll enjoy clean, naturally filtered water while reducing waste in an eco-friendly way!
